The 'Devil's Disciple'

Created by Stuart 4 years ago

Ian used to introduce me as 'the Devil's Disciple' when we were out building courses for working hunter shows. Perhaps because we used to build some 'hell of a good' courses that in Ian's words sorted out the riders from the 'passengers'.

Ian's smile always improved once a clear round had been jumped. But it was his catch phrase; 'How terribly unfortunate!' when one of the posers came to grief that really made us smile!

Lots of memories of early starts, lugging jump poles and wings across windswept fields, delicate pruning of local trees to allow us to add a bit of 'greenery' to the jumps but most of all working with one of the best in his field as both a course builder, horseman and judge. He always had a word of encouragement for the young rider trying their best.

A good friend sadly missed but certainly never to be forgotten.
